The Sony XS-160ES are 6 1/2-inch (16 cm) 2-way coaxial car speakers. Their woofer and soft-dome tweeter are positioned on the same axis within a single speaker unit, providing full-range audio while keeping installation relatively straightforward.

Each XS-160ES speaker is rated for up to 270 W of peak power, with 90 W RMS and 60 W rated power. This makes them suitable for use with aftermarket amplifiers as well as higher-output car stereo head units.

The XS-160ES have a frequency response of 45 Hz to 40,000 Hz and a sensitivity of 89 dB (1 W, 1 m). This broad response allows the speakers to reproduce everything from low bass frequencies through very high-frequency detail.

Yes. The speakers use a 20 mm soft-dome tweeter whose voice coil is directly attached to the diaphragm. The tweeter extends up to 40 kHz, allowing the XS-160ES to reproduce the ultra-high-frequency content associated with High-Resolution Audio.

The woofer uses Sony's Lightweight Rigid Cellular aramid fiber matrix cone along with a rubber Separated Notch Edge Surround and ferrite magnet. The 20 mm soft-dome tweeter uses synthetic fiber construction and a neodymium magnet for high-frequency reproduction.

The Separated Notch Edge Surround is Sony's proprietary rubber surround design. It helps maintain more symmetrical vertical movement of the speaker cone while reducing distortion, contributing to clearer reproduction across low, mid, and high frequencies.

The XS-160ES have a 4-ohm impedance. This is a common impedance specification for car audio speakers and allows them to be paired with a wide range of compatible amplifiers and head units.

The speakers use a five-beam frame that helps disperse unwanted resonance. A Dynamic Air Diffuser also promotes efficient airflow around the speaker, supporting smooth cone movement and voice-coil cooling when the speakers are operating at higher power levels.
